Thank you REG and ALLY, for all the effort you put in to this tournament.
As always, it was a cracking day, with all the usual banter, enthusiasm and fair play.

Big thumbs up to JOHN DEVANEY and our very own IAN RIDLER for travelling so far to support the event.

Looking forward to the 78 World Cup!

When is the 1978 World Cup tournament scheduled for? This time next year or later this year?

As discussed on Sunday, I put myself forward to organise with help from other members, a 1978 WC themed event, for some time in the Autumn.

Details won't be up until Septemberish, as I don't want to detract from Stevie G's Tournament or Mark Parkers, which are both in September.

Nearer the time, I am hoping to discuss with all the Lionhearts and anyone who wants to play, what sort of date would be most suitable.

I am willing to paint up and provide the teams, and advertise the event. Obviously with my location up North, it won't be logistical to do all the booking of suitable venue or transport tables. I would appreciate help with this and the table transportation.

The Goals and balls we used on Sunday - are they the Clubs or Ally's own?

Bracknell FC was a great venue and I'm happy to use that or Maidenhead CC, or any other venue that would be suitable.

It would be nice to be able to offer a venue that is suitable for everyone to use, within reason.

Hopefully, it will be supported by as many as possible.

Sunday's event was great fun, and I would like to replicate something like that. It was played in great spirit, lots of fun and banter, skillfull Subbuteo, nice relaxed atmosphere, pub grub and a beer, and some nice little touches with the Cups, flags and bunting etc

Any thoughts or suggestions...I'm happy to listen, so that we can have a great days Subbuteo.

Regards

Ian

Hi Vic

Later this year I think.
Not sure if October or November were mentioned, but the intention was to get something on between the end of September and the close of this year.

Could get quite excited about a 78 World Cup event. It seems to be the one that sticks in the minds of many.

GENIUS, Zoran?
Not sure about that mate. I also proposed we cover all the pitches with ripped up tickets and toilet roll, and play through it.

Wink

OK, thanks for the replies, chaps. Presumably this will be in place of a Lionhearts meeting? If so, that would mean a max of only 4 traditional Lionhearts meets this calendar year Crying or Very sad

Why would it be in place of a Lionhearts meeting?
It's just another fix for the players that want to play more often, as I understand it.

Lionhearts have 3 meetings currently scheduled ...

September 19th, October 31st and December 12th

It's not in place of a Lionhearts meet Vic. Hope you can support it, as well as the rest of the Lionhearts when it's scheduled.

Counting the days until my next non solo flick...Roll on September... Smile

Thanks Ian for offering to supply and paint the teams. As with the Scots Cup, I am more than happy to
donate the trophies and if everyone is in agreement organise the venue again. The advantages of using
Bracknell Town are that the Travelodge and other hotels, pubs and train station etc are all within a
few minutes of the venue. We also now have permission to serve both alcoholic and non-alcoholic
bottled drinks from behind the bar.

Lighting is an issue during the winter months but if we use Bracknell, I will provide site lights on extension
poles so that all matches can be played 'under floodlight conditions'!!

I would echo your previous post and hope that this time more of the Lionhearts will be able to support
the event.

Cheers
Reg

Sounds GREAT, Reg.
And the floodlit atmosphere will be perfect, as the games were all very late in 78!
FLOODLIGHTS, TOILET ROLL all over the floor, TANGO BALLS and IAN'S SUPERB HAND PAINTED REPLICAS of the time, are all vital ingredients when it comes to creating the ULTIMATE WORLD CUP 78 EXPERIENCE.

cheers

Once I have finished setting it up, I will put up some features and various blog entries.
If anybody wants to add an article, just email me and I will copy and paste it as a main feature.
Then when articles have been added, anybody can make comments and talk about it, in much the same way you would on a forum.

After each themed tournament, we can customise for the next one, and continue to build up a diary of events ( past and future ).

That's a great idea Steve. It all gets lost on the Green forum.

If we keep photo's, results and blogs of Tournaments, we will build up a nice library of events, that we can look back on in the future.

It would be nice to have the photo's and results from Sunday on here or the website too.

Hi Guys, Finally on here!

It's great to see all the enthusiam and ideas flowing post Sunday, which was a cracking day it has to be said. Only point i'd like you to consider is why wait until October?November when the orginal idea was to play every 6 weeks. 15th August is 6 weeks away and also 6 weeks prior to the sport relief tournament.

In answer to the question re: balls and rodded keepers they were kindly provided by Mark Smith.

Good to see you on here Ally.

I'm away for 3 weeks of August. If someone wants to take it all on and organise it for August, then please feel free to do so.
If not, i'm still happy to continue with the help of others.

I think there is quiet a lot going on in September, that will more than make up for August.

Mark Parkers Oldsubbuteo Tournament, Stevie G's Tourney and a regular Lionhearts meet are all planned.

All the best

Ian

No need, Reg. I can right click and pinch them from the GREEN FORUM.

Okay no worries, just thought with 15th August being 6 weeks between Scottish Cup and Sport Relief. It seemed like the prefect slot on paper.

Partick Thistle - Ally Stephen 10 points +7
Hibernian - Steve George 5 points +1
Hearts - Mark Smith 5 points -3
Dundee United - Ian Ridler 3 points -1
Dundee - Adam Douglas 2 points -4

Group B

Glasgow Celtic - Zoran Higgins 10 points +4
Forfar Athletic - Callum Smith 7 points +3
Motherwell - Max Ria 4 points -2
Glasgow Rangers - Reg Honeybul 3 points -1
Kilmarnock - John Devaney 2 points -4
